The photo- and his life story- are haunting reminders of the evils that exists.

There’s another untold tragedy to the story, though. One we suppress, subconsciously. We would witness the same horrors, our lives would be filled with the same suffering, if we opened our eyes and hearts to the world around us. Whether it be our neighbors or strangers across the globe, people are suffering. It might be self-inflicted, maybe it’s the hand life dealt them, or it’s from a tyrannical government. Regardless, we watch in the same way he watched the child struggle. The only difference is he had an excuse to not help.
